Weining county in Southwest China's Guizhou province is suitable for apple planting with its advantages in high altitude, low latitude, long sunshine duration, and significant difference in temperature between day and night.

Weining apples feature deep red color, high sugar content, good taste, and resistance to long-time storage and transportation, and are favored by consumers.

The apples were reserved by fruit vendors from across the country when they were still growing and were immediately sold out when getting on the market after the beginning of autumn.

In recent years, Weining has registered various apple brands and established a marketing mechanism to improve the apples' brand awareness and market competitiveness.

Taking the East-West China collaboration as an opportunity, Weining apples have been promoted at airports in Guiyang and Guangzhou since August last year. In September this year, Weining apples and other featured agricultural products were advertised on Guangzhou's subway line 3.

So far, Weining apples have registered with the national geographic indication for agricultural products and were listed among the regional public brand value ranking of fruits in China from 2018 to 2021.

To give full play to Weining apple's advantages as a national geographic indication for agricultural products and regional public brand, Weining encourages all the apple-involved companies and organizations to create their brands and improve the quality and influence of Weining's apple industry.

Currently, Weining has an apple-bearing area of 213,600 mu (14,240 hectares), an annual output volume of 180,000 metric tons, and an output value of 1.2 billion yuan ($167.42 million), with more than 100,000 farmers involved in the apple industry.
