The Zheng'an-Xishui Expressway, which is located in Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently became the winner of the environmental mitigation category of the Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA) of the International Road Federation (IRF).

The GRAA is known as the top award of the global road industry and was established by the IRF in 2000. It includes 12 categories, including environment, design and research, and each category only awards one project at a time.

It is the first time that a Chinese project has won such an award.

The Zheng'an-Xishui Expressway is 130.37 kilometers long in Guizhou's Zunyi city and is a major part of the Dejiang-Xishui Expressway. The expressway is honored as the most beautiful expressway in northern Guizhou, as it passes by various nature reserves, scenic spots, national forest parks, national geological parks and an aquatic germplasm resource reserve.

The environmental, social and governance report of the Zheng'an-Xishui Expressway has previously won the international tunnel engineering award of the Institution of Civil Engineers and was included in the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as the only demonstration project in China.
