Since 2016, Southwest China's Guizhou province has been devoted to the development of telemedicine service systems to provide convenience for people from remote areas.

Relying on a provincial telemedicine network and a telemedicine service management platform, the public medical institutions at the township, county, municipal and provincial levels are connected online.

By the end of September, Guizhou had provided telemedicine services for 3.25 million cases, including 131,000 cases of remote consultation, 2.24 million cases of remote imaging diagnosis, and 879,000 cases of electrocardiogram diagnosis.

In Qixingguan district, Bijie, a telemedicine service platform, was established to cover 35 health centers at the sub-district, town and township levels. Guizhou also equipped a total of 1,543 health centers with advanced digital medical equipment and video access equipment to help them improve medical services.

To improve the diagnosis and treatment capabilities of doctors in remote areas, Guizhou designated three provincial hospitals to offer regular training on imaging examination, electrocardiograms and clinical examination for operators and doctors.

With the application of telemedicine systems, more and more patients with common and chronic diseases can be treated at health centers near their homes.

The promotion of telemedicine services provides people in remote areas with convenient access to high-quality medical resources in big cities, and allows doctors to improve their professional abilities, according to an official from the information center of the Guizhou Provincial Health Commission.
