Peking Opera movie New Destiny of Iron Bow (新铁弓缘) from Southwest China's Guizhou province won the excellent opera and movie award at the fourth and fifth Chinese Opera Film Festival, which kicked off in Shaoxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on Nov 3.

A total of 35 movies were shown at the festival in more than 10 categories, including operas such as Peking Opera, Yue Opera, Huai Opera and Henan Opera. Some were classic operas, others were classic adaptations and original operas.

The New Destiny of Iron Bow is a classic adaptation that tells the love story between Chen Xiuying and Kuang Zhong, whose destinies started from an iron bow.

The opera film made innovations in art design, setting, costumes and production methods based on contemporary aesthetics. The dialogue between characters in the movie was refined to make it easier to understand and more in line with a contemporary context.

The performance team was composed of performers from the Guizhou Peking Opera Academy. The movie also invited industry veterans to offer guidance.

The movie was also nominated as an excellent opera movie at the 32nd and 34th Colden Rooster Awards.

Established in 1958, the Guizhou Peking Opera Academy is a professional Peking Opera performance group in China. In 2005, it was awarded as a key provincial Peking Opera performance group by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
