In March of 2022, the first medical assistance team from Southwest China's Guizhou province arrived in the Solomon Islands and started their work there.

Over the past year, a team of six medics carried out science lectures, offered medical training, and treated patients with traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture. These actions were met with positive reviews from the locals.

Before starting their medical assistance, the team applied for practicing certificates so that they could legally practice western medicine in the Solomon Islands. The team also received administrative licenses from the Solomon Islands' Ministry of Health & Medical Services, which authorizes the team's acupuncture doctors to carry out acupuncture treatment in the country.

The medicine donated by China has also been authorized and can be legally used in the country.

In addition, the medical team brought hemodialysis equipment and medical consumables to the Solomon Islands because they did not have hemodialysis equipment, nor did they have enough trained nephrologists.

The team's nephrologist, Xu Jun, offered a series of training lectures to help local hospitals train nephrologists. Culwick Togamana, minister of health & medical services, said that the hemodialysis equipment donated by China will greatly alleviate the discomfort of patients during treatment.

George Malefoasi, chief executive officer of National Referral Hospital, was highly impressed by the team's medical skills and work ethic.

Janella Nelma is a 13-year-old local girl who fell from a 10-meter-high coconut tree and was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury, a spinal fracture and a right clavicle fracture.

After one month of acupuncture treatment by doctor Lei Yandong, she fully recovered. She made a deal with Lei to finish her schooling in the Solomon Islands and then go to China to learn acupuncture from him so that she can help more people.

The second medical assistance team is ready to head to the Solomon Islands in early 2023. They will continue to treat the wounded and enhance the friendship between China and the Solomon Islands.
