Sixteen chartered buses and 1,400 private cars carrying more than 4,500 migrant workers left the Shuicheng district of Liupanshui, Guizhou province, on Monday. They were returning to work in other provinces, including Zhejiang, Guangdong and Shandong.

The district provided free bus service and subsidized the fuel fee of 800 yuan ($118) per vehicle for those who drive to work outside the province by private car.
