Yang Song, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Party secretary of Dawan town in Liupanshui city, Southwest China's Guizhou province, went to the fields to learn about the utilization of agricultural machines on Feb 14.

As a CPPCC member, he plans to submit proposals on improving the level of agricultural mechanization in mountainous areas at this year's session of the National Committee of CPPCC, which will be held in Beijing in March.

At a potato planting base in Dawan's Dajing village, Yang learned that the village's agricultural cooperative only has one micro-cultivator, which requires switching operators every two hours and needs to be refueled at a distant gas station.

Yang also went to the town's agricultural machinery retail store to learn about the supply, sales and subsidies of agricultural machinery.

"At present, the agricultural machinery and tools suitable for mountain agriculture are still relatively simple. It is also necessary to strengthen R&D and manufacturing efforts and increase the promotion of small-scale, multi-functional and combined agricultural machinery and tools," Yang said.

After Yang started to perform his duty in Dawan in 2020, he leads locals to develop not only potato and corn planting, but also characteristic industries such as chrysanthemum and mushroom growing.

As young people became migrant workers and left the area for work, most of those who remain are seniors, women and children, which requires the improvement of agricultural mechanization in mountainous areas, so as to improve agricultural production efficiency.
