The works of Guizhou sculptor Li Gang, including "Chinese Confucius", "Zhi Xing Yangming" and "North Pole Threnody", were recently displayed on the big screen in Times Square in New York.

Li said that as a Guizhou native, he strives to create works that reflect the essence of Chinese culture, while telling Guizhou stories, Chinese stories, and human stories in a distinctive Chinese style to the world.

"Chinese culture has been passed down from generation to generation, and Confucius had an impact on East Asia for more than 2,000 years. Wang Yangming also had a profound influence on East Asia," Li Gang said.

In 2016, during his time teaching at the Confucius Institute at the University of Massachusetts Boston, he found that foreign teachers and students were very interested in the Chinese culture represented by Confucius.

Confucius is a symbol of Chinese culture, while Wang Yangming is a reformer and practitioner of Confucianism. Li's two works, "Chinese Confucius" and "Zhi Xing Yangming", convey the Chinese idea of "a world of great harmony and symbiosis" and "benefiting the world instead of oneself".

The other work, an ice sculpture called "Arctic Elegy", features a slowly melting polar bear ice sculpture, conveying concerns about global warming and hoping to raise public awareness of environmental issues.
