Guizhou province in Southwest China welcomes lyricists, composers, music professionals and enthusiasts from all over the country to participate in creating music for a local project.

A song collection campaign, hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee and the Guizhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles, recently got underway as part of the 2023 Colorful Guizhou Cultural and Art Festival. The goal is to collect songs from all over the country that showcase the image and characteristics of Guizhou.

The deadline for submitting lyrics is Aug 15, whereas the song submission period is from Sept 1 to Oct 31. Submissions should be emailed to cxdcgz@163.com. For more information, please call 0851-85823711.

Twenty special awards, including first, second and third prizes, will be selected separately for both lyrics and songs. In December, there will be an exhibition and promotion of the song collection results. Two songs will be selected for further development and promotion on professional national platforms.

With its diverse culture, Guizhou radiates a unique charm and has always been a source of inspiration for musicians.

The province that serves as home to 17 ethnic groups is not surprisingly a treasure trove of ethnic music. This includes the Grand Song of the Dong ethnic group – which has been recognized by UNESCO as one of China's intangible cultural heritage items – the melodic songs of the Miao ethnic group, and the distinctive, high-pitched mountain songs of the Tujia ethnic group, all of which can greatly inspire people's musical creativity.
