5th Guiyang (National) Amateur Opera Performer Art Festival kicks off

The 2023 5th Guiyang (National) Amateur Opera Performer Art Festival, which is part of the 2023 Colorful Guizhou Cultural and Art Festival, was held in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, from July 29 to Aug 4.

During the festival, the Guizhou Peking Opera Theater prepared martial arts performances and screenings of opera films.

Peking Opera enthusiasts from 24 cities across the country took the stage to perform 120 classic scenes. Additionally, seven Shaoxing Opera troupes from Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Liaoning and Chongqing, as well as five Shaoxing Opera troupes from Guiyang, presented four Shaoxing Opera scenes, totaling 12 hours.

At the opening ceremony, a medley of Peking Opera tunes set the stage for the event. Opera enthusiasts from all over the country performed famous scenes, showcasing their talents.

Pan Aiping from Guiyang presented a selected scene from "Li Kui Visits His Mother," while Zhang Xuegao from Xiangtan city, Central China's Hunan province, performed a selected scene from "Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy."

Despite being amateurs, their singing and performance skills rivaled those of professionals, earning thunderous applause from the audience.
