The Xingyi Ring Expressway in Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture, Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently won in the environmental mitigation category of the International Road Federation's (IRF) 2023 Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA).

The project was funded and submitted by Guizhou Highway Engineering Group, recommended by the China Highway and Transportation Society (CHTS). It is also the first time that a project funded by Guizhou enterprises has received the GRAA.

The IRF is a worldwide highway academic organization established in Washington, the United States, in 1948. GRAA is one of the most prestigious awards founded by the organization, representing the highest achievement in technological development and management levels in the international and global highway industry.

The awards include 12 categories such as environmental mitigation, design and research, with only one project awarded in each category globally every year.

Since the establishment of the awards in 2000, more than 185 projects, and works have been honored. In the past five years, China has had 12 award-winning projects.

This year, the Xingyi Ring Expressway stood out from 13 projects in China and won in the environment mitigation category.

The judges said that the project is recognized by industry peers for its excellence, innovation and social influence. They believe that the project will be a model and inspiration for others in the road and transportation departments.
